The Living Tree organic cultured salad bar opened in December of 2016 with a mission to bring healthy, organic, cultured foods to the community.  We live on the principle "let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." Hippocrates

We offer organic, local when possible produce, grass fed beef and cage free, hormone free chicken.  The Living Tree features the first Kombucha on draft system in Durango.  With a friendly and fun environment aiming to share and educate our customers on the importance of eating live, cultured foods just like our ancestors did. 


Come see us this Summer at The Farmer's Market located in the parking lot of First National Bank of Durango across the street from the post office at Camino Del Rio & 8th.  We will be there from 8am-12 noon selling our house made Kombucha on draft, breakfast bowls and our famous wheat free zucchini corn bread.  So come fill up your growler to take home or grab a glass of Kombucha or hemp coffee and breakfast while you walk around the market.

We are serving Grounds for Change coffee from a small husband and wife owned roaster in Washington, it is organic, fair trade and shade grown. Grounds for Change was the first coffee roaster in the US to receive a carbon free certificate. Their coffee is super fresh and with the edition of hemp seeds and our pour over method we think you will find it to be the best coffee in Durango.



Breakfast at the living tree

The Tree is growing and will be serving breakfast this Summer from June-August. We will open at 9am serving our organic breakfast bowls until noon, Beeler’s sausage links and hemp coffee. Our breakfast bowls are made with roasted root vegetables, buttermilk scrambled eggs, black beans with Hatch green chili, fermented salsa and sour cream.

Lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers, almonds, red onions, Vietnamese glazed chicken, our famous house made pineapple kimchi, tossed in our Asian dressing.

Cultured Kitchen

We feature a Jun style Kombucha on draft with forever changing seasonally unique flavors you will not find any where else. On our salad bar is also a forever changing assortment of seasonal fermented vegetables and our staple pineapple kimchi. Brine shots are also available if you are looking for a quick probiotic pick me up.

We ferment or Jun style kombucha in Hungarian oak barrels. Christian our gifted komucha craftsman is always coming up with new flavors. His well balanced flavor profile is inspired by whats growing around him and a few wacky ideas that just come to him.

Our house made pineapple kimchi is a standard fermented food on our bar but there are many others that are constantly changing encouraging you to branch out and try more new tastes and combinations on your salad. We also offer a Good For Your Gut Trio so you can sample some of our fermented foods.

Our catering options are great for office parties, social or family gatherings and holidays. Contact us for quotes and details.


Crudite Tray

We offer a fresh organic vegetable tray, a fermented foods tray or a combination of both. Choose then from our Herb Buttermilk Ranch, Roquefort or Ginger Miso Dressing for dipping.

Choose a crock of our grass fed cowboy chili in either green or red, or get a crock of our vegan chili. Add a loaf or two of our famous wheat free zucchini cornbread to make it a meal. Each crock feeds up to 30 people.



Set up a salad bar for your guests, choose from our Taco Salad Bar, Asian Salad Bar or Vegetarian Salad Bar. Another option is to take home a large bowl of one of our signature salads or a design your own.



The Living Tree was born of desire and a need of our own. So we created a place where we would want to eat all the time and we hope that you feel that way also.  All our food is made with love and we think you can taste it.


All our plates, cups, bowls and silverware is compostable.  Our goal is to produce only one bag of trash a week.  Being gardener's ourselves another goal of ours is to have minimal food waste. We understand the time and energy that goes into producing organic fruits and vegetables.

Loaded Potato

Choose from either a russet or a sweet potato and top with three items from the salad bar. Make it a hearty meal by adding a scoop of chili, or our green chili queso.


Grain Bowl

We offer a variety of grains or rice to be topped by three items from the salad bar or any of our hot meats or cold chicken.


Bone Broth Soup

Our house made broth is a great way to warm up and boost your immune system this winter. Make it your own by choosing veggies or ferments from the bar, along with a wide selection of accompaniments.
